在 PlayStation 4 (http://cn.engadget.com/2013/02/20/sony-ps4-announcement/) 的发表会上 Sony 已经确认由于架构不同的关系（PlayStation 3 为 PowerPC，PlayStation 4 为 x86 (http://cn.engadget.com/2013/02/21/sony-details-playstation-4-specs-8-core-amd-jaguar-cpu-8x-b/)）PlayStation 4 将不会有原生向下相容 PS3 的能力 (http://cn.engadget.com/2013/02/20/playstation-4-will-not-have-native-ps3-backwards-compatibility/)，而现在 SCE 总裁吉田修平（Shuhei Yoshida (http://cn.engadget.com/tag/shuhei+yoshida/)）又为我们带来了一个不好的消息，那就是现有的 PSN (http://cn.engadget.com/tag/psn) 游戏也将无法在 PlayStation 4 上使用。
不过在发表会上原 Gaikai 主管 Dave Perry 曾表示会设法从云端串流 PlayStation 1 / 2 / 3 的游戏到 PlayStation 4 主机之上，按照吉田修平的说法 Sony 会致力于改善服务器端和云端的服务，以求为用户带来更多经典的游戏。但他同时也指出这会是一个「长期计划」，所以大家就先耐心等一等吧。
